Soybean plant heartening news
With a string of setbacks this year with Prairie Expo and the troubles
at ADI, it's heartening to see positive economic development news
for the area.
That came Tuesday night at the Worthington Regional Economic Development
Corp. annual meeting.
Officials of the South Dakota Soybean Processors announced the start
of construction on a $2.3 million soybean oil storage project in
Brewster.
That plant will complement the 100,000-bushel-a-day soybean crush
facility that is planned for Brewster. That project is a joint venture
between the South Dakota Soybean Processors and the Minnesota Soybean
Processors.
Both projects are examples of people in the agriculture community
taking steps to add value to the crops they grow. Both should be
a great help to those who have invested in the plant.
As we've seen in the past year, the road to economic development
is long and winding and often goes in unpredict-able directions.
With luck, the road for the Brewster soybean operations will be
clear and straight.
